Criminal Court has extended the remand of the tourist who was arrested from the Velana International Airport for possession of bullets.

The tourist – identified as a 60-year-old Namibian male – was arrested from the airport on the morning of July 10 after bullets were discovered in his luggage.

Criminal Court had remanded him to three days in custody of the police on July 12.

A medial official from Maldives Police Service confirmed to Sun today that as the initial remand period would expire today, the Criminal Court has granted an extension of additional four days.

When Sun posed a question as to how the tourist had gotten ahold of the bullets and whether they were smuggled in to the Maldives, the Police stated that they could not give away anymore information as the matter is still currently being investigated.
