Maldives Police Service has postponed the police appearance of Fathimath Zahiyyaa (Zaya) – a member of main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s National Council and the party’s North Hulhumale’ constituency president, who is running for North Hulhumale’ seat in the upcoming Local Council Election on MDP’s ticket.
The summons served to Zaya on Tuesday read that she is being summoned for questioning and to give statement regarding allegedly threatening police via social media. In this regard, she was summoned to appear before the Police at 14:00pm this afternoon.
Zaya said in a social media post on Wednesday that police contacted her today and informed her that her scheduled appearance before police has been postponed, and that she would be notified of a new date at a later time.
Notably, Zaya’s phone was seized by the Police in connection with a social media post on October 7 and returned to her on October 12. Personal videos of Zaya were leaked on social media while the phone was in the possession of the Police prompting her to file a complaint with the relevant authorities.
Zaya was also summoned to the Police regarding MDP’s ‘Lootuvailaifi’ rally held on October 3 in Male’. Back then was being investigated for allegedly gathering illegally in various parts of the city, obstructing public transport, and disrupting businesses.
