Maldives Police have revealed that of the 5,701 individuals stopped and questioned on the streets of Male' last month, 5,023 had prior criminal records. The remaining 678 had no known criminal history, according to data released by the Male' Frontline Police.
The figures were part of a broader operational summary highlighting visibility patrols, traffic management, and community engagement efforts. In December, police maintained 25 visibility and traffic control points, checked 21,521 locations, and operated 103 vehicle checkpoints. Officers spent a total of 1,048 hours and 43 minutes patrolling the streets.

Police also responded to 153 crime scenes, including:
113 thefts
20 fights
13 traffic accidents
7 robberies
In addition to enforcement, police carried out 1,069 community interaction efforts, made 172 attempts to resolve public concerns, and responded to 52 incidents involving serious offences.
Authorities say these efforts are part of an ongoing strategy to improve public safety and reduce street-level crime. Police have also conducted awareness campaigns, including poster distribution and loudspeaker announcements, to promote road safety and discourage illegal activity.
