President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced Monday his commitment to the philosophy of sustainable development, emphasizing that islands with larger populations will receive priority in development initiatives.
During his official visit to Haa Dhaalu atoll, President Muizzu visited Nolhivaram, the atoll's second most populous island. He affirmed his administration's immediate efforts to ensure all necessary arrangements are made for the island's residents.
The President highlighted that sustainable development necessitates prioritizing certain aspects for larger populations and land areas. However, he stressed that "all islands are equal and even the smallest islands will be catered to."
Development projects in Nolhivaram will adhere to this policy, he said.
President Muizzu outlined several key projects for Nolhivaram:
The construction of a 30-bed hospital will commence this year.
Capital and human resources will be provided to strengthen the health center's services until the hospital's completion.
Within a maximum of six months, cables will be installed to supply electricity to farm fields, the island power station will be relocated, and the electricity supply problem will be resolved.
The fitness and recreation center will be transformed into an indoor sports complex.
Additional building work for the school will be incorporated into the multipurpose hall project.
Furthermore, agreements were signed at the ceremony for a project to establish a shop for agricultural resource supply, the port upgradation project, the beach protection project, and the road development project.
