Police probe alleged grooming case by a teacher

Police launch an investigation into case involving an attempt by a teacher to groom students by discussion of topics that are not age appropriate.

Maldives Police Service has launched a probe into a case involving an attempt by a teacher to groom students by discussion of topics that are not age-appropriate.

In a message to the media on Monday, Police said the case was reported from an island in a southern central atoll.

The division includes Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, Thaa and Laaamu atolls.

Police identified the teacher who attempted to groom students as a man. It was not disclosed whether the teacher is a local or a foreigner.

As per the Police, the case was reported to the authority on October 17th.

No further details regarding the case have been disclosed by the Police as it involves children, including the identities of the children.

Serious cases involving teachers grooming students or sexually abusing students have previously come to light as well.
