Gender Ministry: 103 cases of violence against minors reported in April

The Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services on Thursday published the statistics of cases reported to and attended by the ministry for the month of April.

As per the figures, while a total of 184 cases were received and attended to, 103 of them were cases of various forms of violence against children.

Cases of violence against children:

Sexual abuse – 30

Physical abuse – 29

Emotional abuse – 10

Negligence – 16

Exploitation – 4

Witness to domestic abuse – 14

Compared to March, the number of cases of violence against children has dropped. In March there were 126 cases reported.

Notably so far this year, the highest number of cases were noted in March, as there were 105 cases in January and 106 cases in February.

Also related to children were four cases of behavioural problems, from which two were temper tantrums and the remaining were of running away.

In addition to this, there were 10 cases of parenting issues and 11 cases of custody and access cases in April.

Looking at the statistics published by the ministry regarding gender-based violence and domestic violence cases, a total of 31 cases were reported and attended to. From this category, the most frequently reported cases involved physical violence and abuse, with 17 cases.

During the same period, the ministry had taken three children into state care, while two children were reintegrated with families.
