Court orders 3-day remand for taxi driver arrested for sexual assault

Hulhumale’ Court has ordered for the taxi driver arrested for the sexual assault of a female passenger to be remanded in custody of the police for three days.

The case was reported at approximately 12:50 am on Monday.

The case involves a 20-year-old Maldivian woman, who boarded a taxi from Male’ City in the early hours of Monday, and was driven to Hulhumale’ Phase II against her will and was sexually assaulted.

Police arrested the taxi driver, identified as a 41-year-old Maldivian man, the same day.

The suspected was presented before the Hulhumale’ Court for his remand hearing on Monday.

The court ordered for him to be remanded in custody of the police for three days.

The case is under investigation by the police.
