Taxi driver arrested for sexual assault of female passenger

Police have arrested a suspect for the sexual assault of a female passenger who boarded a taxi in Male’ City.

Police identified the victim as a 20-year-old Maldivian woman, who boarded a taxi from Male’ City in the early hours of Monday.

She was driven to Hulhumale’ Phase II against her will and was sexually assaulted.

Police confirm they have arrested a 41-year-old Maldivian man in connection to the case.

“She was taken to Hulhumale’ Phase II against her will,” said a police spokesperson.

The case is under investigation by the police.
