Health officials have placed 30 people identified as contacts of a confirmed coronavirus case in N. Kudafari under home quarantine.
A resident of Kudafari, identified as an elderly man, tested positive for the new coronavirus on Sunday after he was taken to Male’ City for further treatment after fracturing his leg.
Kudafari Council vice president Jazlaan Adam told Sun on Monday that 30 people in Kudafaree have been isolated in connection to the case.
One of the contacts was tested on Sunday.
“The person tested negative. But the 30 people remain in isolation,” said Jazlaan.
Kudafarihas been placed under ‘monitoring’ by Health Protection Agency, and travel in and out of the islands has been temporarily banned.
Prior to being taken to Male’ City, the elderly patient had also been treated at the hospital in N. Manadhoo.
Manadhoo hospital’s manager Ismail Shafeeq told Sun that the patient had contact with 16 people, who have been placed under home quarantine.
Meanwhile, 48 people identified as contacts of a family of three in R. Dhuvaafaru who tested positive for the new coronavirus on Saturday have also been placed under home quarantine.
2,762 people have tested positive for the new coronavirus in Maldives, including 31 who tested positive this Monday. 2,290 people have recovered, while 13 have died from complications.
