Maldives Police Service states the man who is seen giving control of a motorbike to a child on Hulhumale’ Highway in a viral video is being investigated for subjecting a child to danger.
The video shows a child, who is seated in front of a man in a school uniform, handed over the control of the motorbike by the handlebars. The man keeps his left hand lightly on the handlebar.
Police, in an earlier comment, said they were probing the incident after the video had come to their attention.
On Friday night, Police revealed that the man involved in the incident had been questioned.
They noted that a separate case has been initiated against him on suspicions of subjecting a child to danger.
Moreover, as his actions amounted to a traffic violation, Police said they are undertaking efforts to submit a request with the Transport Ministry to take action against him.
Police assured that all necessary measures will be taken in connection to the incident.
The authority has previously launched investigations and taken action after videos showing individuals driving recklessly or violating traffic regulations surfaced. In this regard, Police have taken action after a viral video that showed a motorbike driver without a helmet on the bridge and a viral video that showed a large number of plants being carried on a motorbike.
Police are taking significant action to reduce accidents with 1,933 accidents reported so far this year, accounting for over 200 per month.
With a large number of major accidents recently that have also claimed lives, Police have reported a decrease in the number of accidents after they increased officers patrolling the roads to reduce accidents.
