Maldives Police Service, on Friday, said they have rescued a Maldivian being held hostage inside a home in Male’ City and arrested three suspects in connection to the case.
In a message to the media, Police said they received a report of a Maldivian man being held hostage inside a home in Male’ City on Thursday.
Three Maldivian men have been arrested in connection to the case whom Police identified as aged 22, 27 and 30.
All three of them were remanded in custody for 10 days by the court.
Notably, three men were arrested and remanded pending the outcome of their on July 9th for a person hostage in Male’, and subjecting him to prolonged torture, including cutting off one of his fingers.
There has been a sharp increase in kidnapping and hostage cases recently. While Police undertake efforts to combat such crimes, they have been at the end of criticism over their failure to produce sufficient results.
