Maldives Police Service states the condition of two students from Police College based at Addu City, who are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for suspected food poisoning, is improving.

Police, on Friday, said one of the students being treated in ICU has now been shifted to the ward, adding the condition of both students was improving.

In an earlier comment, Police said a total of 32 students were hospitalized, of which five were being treated in the ICU with one of them in critical condition.

An official from Addu Equatorial Hospital told Sun that the students were taken to the hospital at around 20:00pm on Wednesday evening, and were initially treated at the ER.

The official added they were brought after they showed symptoms of allergies, which they added could have been due to food they had consumed.

Police also affirmed that they believed it was a case of food poisoning, adding the authority is looking into the matter with the hospital’s assistance.

The National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, developed with grant assistance from the Indian government, was officially inaugurated on March 27, 2022.
