One arrested in Nepalese worker's kidnapping released

One out of the two Bangladeshi suspects believed to have kidnapped and held a Nepalese individual hostage inside a Male' City guesthouse, has been released.

Maldives Police Service confirmed via message in its media group, one of the Bangladeshi suspects was released on Friday evening, while the other individual received a 10-day remand when summoned to the court.

After finding the Nepalese man held against his will at the guesthouse, police confirmed they found him in stable condition.

Kidnapping cases have been rising in the Greater Male' Area at an alarming rate more recently, which had included a case of luring people into an apartment and robbing them of their possessions, and other blackmail cases.

Police is already investigating multiple similar cases.
