Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), on Sunday, stated they received forms from 34 individuals for record checks related to the upcoming presidential elections at the expiration of the deadline to submit forms.
DJA detailed that record checks for 32 individuals out of the 34 individuals had been completed and handed over to them by dusk on Sunday, while efforts are underway to finish up the record checks of the remaining two individuals at the earliest.
The department, noting record checks are not carried out through an automated central database, stressed how time-consuming it is to check the records from all courts separately. Therefore, they urged everyone who submitted the forms to keep this in mind.
The deadline to submit for record checking expired at 9:00am tonight.
Meanwhile, candidacy submission for the presidential election slated for September 9th is set to expire at 2:00pm on Monday.
Four candidates have filed their candidacy forms so far; main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s candidate, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, Maldives National Party (MNP)’s presidential candidate, Dhangethi MP Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim and The Democrats’ presidential candidate, Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb.
