Maldives Reform Movement (MRM)’s leader Ahmed Faris Maumoon who has decided to contest this year’s presidential election as an independent candidate has chosen Dr. Abdul Sattar Yoosuf as his running mate.
In a video message on Sunday night, Faris said Dr. Abdul Sattar Yoosuf is an individual who has truthfully and sincerely served the people over a long period of time, and has garnered their love and trust.
Dr. Abdul Sattar, who accepted his appointment during the video, attributed his decision sincerely work for the betterment of the nation.
“Will work to take the nation to a much better place than it is now,” he added.
Dr. Abdul Sattar is an individual who worked in the health sector for a long period of time. In addition to this, he has written a great number of books on social issues and conducted various research.
Faris initially decided to contest the election on MRM’s ticket. He is contesting as an independent candidate in light of the Elections Commission (EC)’s decision to dissolve MRM for failure to meet the 3,000 membership mark required by the Political Parties Act, which may pose difficulties to contest as a representative of the party despite being appealed at court.
He has secured the sufficient number of signatures to submit his candidacy form, while efforts are still underway to secure more signatures.
