Majilis area to be cordoned off tomorrow for reopening

A significant portion of the People’s Majilis area is set to be cordoned off tomorrow, as the opening sitting of the Parliament for this year is scheduled to take place.

Police said the roads surrounding Majilis area will be cordoned off tomorrow – as the annual presidential address will be delivered by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the Majilis building, at the opening sitting of the Parliament for the year 2022.

Police detailed that the cordoned area would be inaccessible for both vehicles and pedestrians.

They noted that the area will be cordoned starting from 5:45 in the morning – until the session ends.

In addition to cordoning off roads – the parking zone in Medhuziyaarai Magu starting from Majeedhiyya School to Dharumavantha School and the parking zone inform of Majilis building will also be vacated.

The Parliament went into recess on November 29 last year. Members were recalled for three sittings during recess. 

According to the Parliament’s Standing orders, the Parliament will hold three sessions each year. The first session is held from February to April. 

The day of the opening sitting of the Parliament each year is a public holiday.
