Abdul Hannan Idrees has been presented with Maldives National Party (MNP)’s ticket for the upcoming by-election for the vacant Komandoo parliamentary seat.
Hannan, a native of Komandoo, had contested unopposed for the MNP ticket. He was presented with his ticket in a ceremony held at STELCO on Saturday night.
Hannan has an extensive background in education. He served as a principal at five schools, and as manager of Villa College’s Faculty of Sharia and Law.
He is currently involved in running his own business.
The Komandoo parliamentary seat was left vacant following the death of MP Hussain Waheed on December 14. He died at the age of 53 years in a hospital in Male’ City after a year-long battle with cancer.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) have also selected candidates for the by-election. The MDP ticket went to former Sh. Foakaidhoo Council president Mohamed Rashid, while the PPM ticket went to former Deputy Home Minister Moosa Fathuhy Adam.
The by-election is scheduled to be held on February 5.
