Three men have been arrested for violating a government ban on non-essential travel, after traveling to L. Kunahandhoo from L. Maamendhoo.
The men were arrested in Kunahandhoo in the afternoon around 13:16 according to Police. They had traveled to the island on a makeshift raft. Those arrested are aged 29, 38, and 43. They have been remanded in custody for a period of 15 days by the magistrate court in L. Gan.
Police are further investigating the matter. The travel ban was initiated in April as a community spread of COVID-19 was identified in the capital. It was done so in a bid to contain and control the virus effectively, before it spread to other locations of the country.
