Lockdown violations will be met with arrests and fines

Violations of the lockdown imposed in Male’ City will be met with arrests and fines, Maldives Police Service has announced.

Male’ City and the surrounding Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’ is in a state of lockdown for a period of 14 days after eight cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the populous capital within just three days. 

Police stated that those in violation of the lockdown order will be stri9ctly punished through the law and advi9sed everyone to remain at home. A first offender will be fined while a repeat offender will be arrested under article 533 of the Penal Code of Maldives.

Police also requested the assistance and cooperation of the public in containing the virus situation in the capital.
