National Emergency Operations Center official Dr. Sheena Moosa has warned that the Maldives may already have around 100 cases of Covid-19.

In a news conference underway right now, Dr. Sheena said that the positive cases being identified right now means that there will be more undetected cases in the country.

“We have only confirmed around 10 cases. However, that means that there will be six times more than that. So more than 60, around 100 cases will exist in the country.” said Dr. Sheena.

She also added that the contacts of the positive cases were extremely high and warned that everyone should be alert that anyone could be infected with the virus.

The doctor also warned that the health system in the country does not have the capacity to treat everyone if the virus cases spiral out of control.

More than 300 people have been isolated following contact with the eight confirmed cases in Male’ City. She warned that the system would reach its full capacity within 14 days at the current rate.

Dr. Nazla Rafeeq from the NEOC has also previously warned that the country would reach its peak within 14 days.
