Transport Authority (TA) has announced it is looking for a party to develop an online application for taxi service in Maldives.

TA, in its announcement last Tuesday, asked interested parties to clarify additional information regarding the project by attending its headquarters on May 29 and May 30.

The deadline to submit proposals end at 2 pm on May 30.

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced the decision to install meters on taxis in an effort to solve widespread public complaints over taxis charging unreasonably high rates for trips over the Sinamale’ Bridge.

The ministry says it plans on using a mobile application which has both the meter feature and a feature to enable people to find vacant taxis.

The latest attempt at introducing an app for taxi service comes after the failure of the app, Kobaa Taxi, developed by TA and a private company back in 2015. The app was designed to increase customer convenience by shortening the time and effort spent on vacant taxis, but failed to gain popularity.

Maldives currently has one private business with an app which offers taxi booking services.
