The national airline of Maldives, Maldivian Airlines will henceforth focus of providing a public service instead of operating as a profit-motive business and lower its fares, says Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation.

Speaking in an interview with ‘Sun’ this Sunday, Minister Aishath Nahula said the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has now completed tasks on its side to reduce fares of domestic air transportation, and is now involved in collaborations with other State agencies to achieve its goal.

“The changes to ticket prices will be announced in a few days. These changes will be what the people want, and will make them happy,” said Nahula.

The minister said the work is now in the hands of Ministry of Finance and the President’s Office.

Nahula said the delay in announcing the changes to fares was due to non-working days and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s State visit to India falling in between. But that the changes will be announced soon.

Lowering the fares of domestic air transport in one of President Solih’s First 100-Day Goals.
