Police arrest two after viral video shows man assaulted and dumped into the sea

Two men have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a robbery suspect, dragging him across the ground and throwing him into the sea.

A video circulating on social media in recent days shows a man accused of theft being manhandled in a crowded area before he is dragged and thrown into the water.

Police identified the suspects as Ahmed Hatim, 49, of M. Ziyaaraiifushi, and Ahmed Shareef, 50, of Andhaleebuge, B. Hithadhoo. Both were taken into custody and have been remanded for 15 days.

The video shows the victim wearing only jeans as a man in boots pulls him along the ground. He is then dragged further and thrown into the sea. The footage also shows an exchange between the victim and another individual, though the clip has no audio.

According to the person who posted the video, the man who was thrown into the sea was accused of stealing.

Police are investigating the incident.
