In an X post, the President said that the prayer call will be heard at all five prayer times in the new terminal, effective from Asr prayer, July 27, 2025.

After a prolonged wait, the new international terminal at Velana International Airport opened on Saturday. The new terminal is designed to handle 7.5 million passengers annually.

The national airline has relocated its international flights to the new terminal on Sunday. The first flight took off from Cochin, India this afternoon and landed near the VIA new terminal. A water salute was also given to mark the occasion.

The exterior of the terminal has been designed to reflect the architecture of ancient Maldivian mosques, incorporating historical patterns. Additionally, the exterior features wave-like designs created by the ocean.

The airport’s interior has also been designed to showcase Maldivian aesthetics. Blue and white colors dominate the airport’s interior.
