The domestic airport in Sh. Funadhoo temporarily closed on Saturday, due to an issue with the fire truck at the airport.
The closure of the airport comes amid the Eid al-Adha holidays, as scores of people travel domestically for the five-day public holiday.
The national airline, Maldivian issued a notice announcing they are unable to operate scheduled flights to Funadhoo on Saturday, as the airport is temporarily closed due to “a technical issue.”
The airline said they were arranging alternative travel options for affected passengers and are reaching out to them directly.
The airline also apologized for the inconvenience and asked passengers to contact the call center at 1671 for assistance.
Funadhoo Council’s president Ahmed Ibrahim Fulhu told Sun that the airport was closed due to an issue with the fire truck at the airport, which needs to be on standby when planes land at the airport.
Maldivian operates three weekly flights to Funadhoo.
Ahmed predicts the airport will open by Tuesday, which is when government offices reopen after the Eid holidays.
Managed by the Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL), the Funadhoo Airport opened in February 2020.
