Maldivian authorities have captured a small boat carrying three Somalis found off the coast of Fuvahmulah City.
According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the Coastguard captured “a suspicious dinghy boat” approximately 10 nautical miles northwest of Fuvahmulah on Monday morning.
The MNDF said that upon closer inspection, they found the vessel to be a skiff boat that is commonly used by Somalis, and carrying three men who are believed to be Somalis.
The boat was taken to the Fuvahmulah harbor, and both the boat and the three Somalis are being transferred to the custody of the police.
The circumstances under which they found themselves in the Maldives is unclear at this point.
