Former chairman of the Elections Commission (EC), Fuad Thaufeeq has been nominated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as the new Maldivian ambassador to Thailand.
The letter nominating Fuad to the post was read at the Parliament on Monday morning.
The nomination has been set to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.
In 2008, Fuad became a member of the Maldives’ very first Elections Commission, set up following the enactment of the new Constitution. He served at the EC from 2008 to 2014 and from 2019 to 2024.
Fuad’s tenure at the EC came to an end on Saturday, after having served the maximum of two five-year terms.
He also previously worked at the Foreign Ministry and at SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Secretariat.
