Man arrested for attempting to attack police officer with sharp-edged weapon

A man has been arrested for attacking a police officer who was attempting to stop him from attacking another individual with a sharp-edged weapon.

In a message to the media on Friday, the Police said the suspect was arrested at approximately 18:30pm on suspicion of attempting to attack a person with a sharp-edged weapon.

The Police further said the suspect attempted to attack a police officer who was trying to stop him.

The suspect has been identified as a 33-year-old Maldivian man.

A video of the incident is viral on social media that shows two officers arresting a man while surrounded by a large number of witnesses.
