Prison officer narrowly escapes assault attempt using a hammer

A group of people attempted to assault a prison officer who works at Hulhumale’ Prison on the streets on Tuesday.

Hulhumale’ Prison, in a statement regarding the incident, said the incident took place at approximately 19:73pm last night, as the officer exited from Hulhumale’ Prison and was en route to Phase Two.

They detailed that two people on a motorcycle followed the officer from behind and attempted to assault the officer with a hammer, but, had missed.

Maldives Correctional Service has reported the incident to the Maldives Police Service, which is now investigating the case.

All Corrections’ officers were urged to be cautious of such attempts in the statement. 

Occasionally, prison officers are targetted on the streets regarding incidents that have taken place in prisons.
