The Addu City Council on Saturday announced that all work on the Addu Detour Bridge, also known as Addu Hankede Bridge will open officially in September 2024.

The council authority confirmed to 'Sun' that all the work on the bridge project has concluded recently, with only minor finishing touches pending, including fence installation.

Lamps and asphalt have already been installed on the bridge structure.

A media official from Addu City Council confirmed to 'Sun' that the bridge will officially open for public use in the following month.

India's Afcons, which also handles Thilamale' Bridge project in Greater Male' area, handled development of the Addu Detour Bridge as well.

Under the detour bridge project, the contractor developed 1.4-kilometer four-land bridge structure.

Besides the bridge, Hankede integrated tourism project's ground breaking ceremony was held earlier in April 2024, that aims to develop real estate tourism in Addu City.

This project was awarded to the China National Electrical Engineering Company (CNEEC).

The Maldives Fund Management Corporation (MFMC), which oversees Hankede development, earlier announced that the project will add 1,041 tourist rooms to the southernmost atoll.
