Addu City Council said on Thursday that the Addu Detour Bridge has been 95 percent completed.
The council said that the pending components of the project include the installation of crash barriers and expansion joints.
Additionally, the sand fillings beneath the bridge, previously added to support the structure, will be removed.
With the majority of the work already concluded, Addu City Council added that fence installation is still pending.
Earlier, it was announced that the Addu Detour Bridge, also known as the Hankede Bridge, had been postponed from July to September.
The project was developed by India's AFCONS and aims to connect Addu City's Gaukendi with the Maradhoo islands. The project, launched in 2021, cost MVR 1.1 billion.
