Addu City Council has opened bid invitations seeking party to reconstruct Mathikilhi, a protected area in Addu City’s Meedhoo, which burned to ash in a suspected arson.
The fire at Mathikilhi was reported Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) at 10:37pm on October 5th. Addu City Council suspects that the fire was deliberately set.
Addu City Council published an announcement on Thursday seeking a party to reconstruct Mathikilhi on a design and build basis. The submission of bids is scheduled for 10:00am on Tuesday, November 25th, at Addu City Council building.
Only companies officially registered to conduct business activities in this sector are eligible to submit bids for the project.
Multiple fires at Mathikilhi this year have been suspected to be cases of arson.
On March 19, a major fire engulfed Mathikilhi, destroying approximately two-thirds of the protected wetland. Back then, Mathikilhi Society said it would take about six months to recover the grass field, which was destroyed in the fire.
The fire in October caused significant damage to the bridge walkway at Mathikilhi Eco Garden. As a result, the walkway has been rendered unsafe and is currently unusable.
