President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday asked the Parliament for approval to appoint new ambassadors to three foreign countries.

They are:

  • Masood Imad, for Sri Lanka
  • Dr. Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed, for Malaysia
  • Geela Ali, for Belgium and the European Union

The names of the three nominees have been sent to the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee for vetting.

Geela, who is nominated as Maldives’ envoy to Belgium and the EU, served as permanent secretary at the Health Ministry during the 2013-2018 PPM administration. She also served as the secretary general at the now main ruling PNC.

Meanwhile, Masood, who is nominated as the envoy to neighboring Sri Lanka, had served as media secretary at the President’s Office during former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s administration.
