13 candidates, including Adhurey, secure PPM-PNC tickets for Majlis elections

13 candidates have secured tickets from the main ruling PPM-PNC coalition for the upcoming parliamentary elections without needing to contest the coalition’s primaries.

The coalition announced on Tuesday that the candidates secured tickets for 13 electoral districts either because they had run unopposed or because other candidates withdrew their name.

The 13 candidates who secured the tickets are:

• Hoarafushi constituency: Ali Moosa
• Baarah constituency: Ibrahim Shujau, PNC deputy leader
• Hanimaadhoo constituency: Idhrees Abdulla
• Eydhafushi constituency: Ahmed Saleem, incumbent MP
• Mahibadhoo constituency: Ahmed Toriq, incumbent MP
• Nilandhoo constituency: Fathimath Saudha
• Thimarafushi constituency: Ibrahim Sanah
• Fonadhoo constituency: Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey), PNC chairperson
• Central Hithadhoo constituency: Ahmed Azan Marzooq, journalist
• Hulhudhoo constituency: Mohamed Shahid (Shaad), former MP
• South Galolhu constituency: Ibrahim Mohamed
• West Henveiru constituency: Ali Ibrahim
• Central Hulhumale’ constituency: Abdulla Shazeem

The announcement comes a day after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the leader of PNC, decided to allow all candidates to contest the primaries, following protest after some of the candidates were rejected for various reasons, including creating strife or failure to sufficiently serve the coalition.

The PNC had originally scheduled the primaries for December 23, but it was later postponed to January 20, and again, to January 27.
