40 children taken under state care in 2022

Total 40 children were newly taken under state care last year, according to the Child and Family Protection Service (CFPS).

The 2022 statistics released by CFPS on Tuesday shows the 40 children taken under state care included 23 girls and 17 boys.

Meanwhile, 40 more children were reintegrated with families or provided with jobs or internship opportunities. This included 22 girls and 18 boys.

Meanwhile, 10 children were placed with foster families. This included seven girls and three boys.

There were total 187 children under state care by the end of last year; 105 boys and 82 girls.

At the Child Rights Symposium held in September 2022, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stressed that putting children in state care is not a tenable solution to address issues facing children.

He said that children needed a home environment with strong familial ties in order to grow up feeling safe and loved, and that the government was running multiple programs aimed at strengthening domestic relations.

No matter how much kindness and care the state may show to children under their care, nothing can fill the hole left from being denied parental love, he said.
