MTCC geared up to commence bus service in Vilimale’

State and public-owned Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has geared up to commence bus service in Vilimale’.

MTCC said that preparations were underway to provide bus service in Vilimale’ using electric vehicles as part of the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus service provided by the company in the Male’ area,

As per the company, they will be using six electrically charged buses to provide bus service in Vilimale’. They detailed that the buses could accommodate 15 people at a time – of which there are seats for 11.

Noting that preparations were underway to expand their bus service to Vilimale’ – MTCC said that they hope to launch the service before the end of this month. The company said that the routes and the bus schedule will be announced in the upcoming days.

While MTCC has announced the impending launch of bus service in Vilimale’ – Male’ City Council, on Tuesday, said that they were working to launch electric buggy service at the district early next month.

A total of 10 buggies will be used to provide the service in Vilimale’ which comprises of three four-seaters, three six-seaters, one 12-seater, two for transportation of goods, and one for transportation of sick people.

The buggy service will be available 24 hours.

Buggy services were previously provided in Vilimale’ by private parties which came to halt with the increase of electric motorbikes.

The lack of transportation means within Vilimale’ has been a constant complaint of its residents and visitors.
