Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that it has completed Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu Development Project, including the laying of asphalt.
The Phase 2 accounts for the segment of Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu spanning from Male’ Fish Market to atoll shops.
The contractor of the project, MTCC said it has completed works under Phase 2 of the project, involving asphalt paving of a 260-meter stretch and the expansion of the road to a width of 14 meters. It added that the quay wall was extended approximately six meters outward as part of the comprehensive redevelopment of the zone.
The works on the Phase 2 of the project commenced late December last year.

The area of Boduthakurufaanu Magu between the Fish Market and the presidential jetty was reopened to the public mid-December following three months of redevelopment work under the project’s first phase.
In this regard, the road was widened to four lanes, with fencing installed on both sides and added features to accommodate wheelchair and trolley users. Work on this segment began on August 22, 2024, after the Ministry of Construction awarded MTCC a contract worth MVR 144.5 million, with a completion timeline of one year and three months.
Notably, the government is also seeking assistance from the Chinese government to redevelop the inner roads of Male’ City.
