Japan provides MVR 1.2M in grant assistance to upgrade Omadhoo School

Government of Japan has provided MVR 1.2 million (USD 80,731) in grant assistance to upgrade Omadhoo School, in ADh. Omadhoo.

The grant agreement was signed during a special ceremony held at the Education Ministry on Sunday, by Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori and Omadhoo School’s Principal Hassam Amir.

The grant assistance is being provided under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.

Embassy of Japan in the Maldives states that the project will be implemented by Omadhoo School, with support from Education Ministry. It will see the establishment of a classroom and an accessible toilet for Special Education Need (SEN) children in the school.

They detailed that the assistance will enhance the environment to ensure that the classrooms are safe and comfortable for children to enjoy learning. Moreover, Omadhoo School will be utilized as an emergency evacuation shelter in case of natural disasters on the island after the completion of this project. 

GGP is a part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level since 1996. It is implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy with the view of contributing to the sustainable development of the Maldives.
