Japan grants USD 2.1 mil to improve ACC functioning

The Japanese government has decided extending a grant of MVR 300 million Japanese Yen (USD 2.1 million) towards an initiative aimed at improving the capacity of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The governments signed on the ‘Exchange of Notes’ on Sunday afternoon to extend the grant. The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel signed on behalf of the Maldives government while the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori signed on behalf of Japan.

While speaking at the ceremony, Minister Khaleel focused on the crucial nature of the government’s ongoing efforts in combatting corruption. He further said this grant is an important cornerstone in enhancing a transparent, responsible and robust mechanism in combatting corruption in the country.

He also thanked the Japanese government for its valuable role in enhancing the capacity of Maldives government bodies.

Besides this, he also emphasized on the long-standing bilateral relationship between both countries.

He expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its continued support and being a close ally in the development of Maldives.

The ceremony was attended by ACC President Adam Shamil, senior officials of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Finance Ministry, ACC and the Japanese embassy in the Maldives as well.
