Police have arrested a second teenager in connection to the fatal stabbing in Feydhoo district of Addu City last week.
Mohamed Zayan Moosa, 21, Solid, S. Feydhoo, was stabbed multiple times in a gang fight which broke out in Feydhoo district at approximately 03:00 am on June 1.
He died a couple of hours after he was taken to the Addu Equatorial Hospital.
A police spokesperson said a 15-year-old was arrested under court order in connection to the case on Monday night.
It marked the second arrest in connection to the case.
The first suspect, a 16-year-old, was arrested under court order on Sunday night. The police spokesperson said the court remanded him into custody of the police for 10 days on Monday.
Meanwhile, the three additional suspects arrested on Sunday for public disorder – two 18-year-olds and a 29-year-old, was remanded in custody of the police for five days.
According to the hospital, Zayan sustained multiple stab wounds, including to his hands and back.
Addu City Council has expressed concern over the murder, and has called on the police to establish safety and security in the city.
The case comes after the council expressed concern over lack of police resources to properly maintain security in Addu in September last year, after a serious of gang-related violence shook the city.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said last year that there were 12 active gangs in Addu – the second most populous city in Maldives.
