The foundation stone has been laid for a Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) ATM and a temporary market in suburban Vilimale’.
The foundation stone for the ATM was laid by Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and MIB’s Head of Cards and Digital Banking, Arefur Rahman Chowdhury.
The ATM is being built in front of Masjid Al-Birri.
Speaking at the ceremony, Muizzu said he hopes to have Vilimale’ residents enjoy the same conveniences as residents of Male’ City when it comes to banking services.
Muizzu said that he heard the ATM would be complete within four months, and said he hoped to see the ATM open as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the foundation stone for the temporary market was laid by Muizzu and Vilimale’ councilwoman Nahula Ali.
Muizzu said the market was expected to open ahead of the upcoming Ramadan.
“I don’t see this as a completely temporary market. This market will, In Sha Allah, be enjoyed by all Vilimale’ residents, until the day this area is developed,” he said.
Muizzu said that the market will offer business opportunities for the youth and women in Vilimale’, and benefit the community.
He said that vendors for the stalls at the market will be selected before the construction is complete.
Muizzu, in his visit to Vilimale’ on Monday, also inaugurates work on installation of ramps in the streets of the island.
