Dharumavantha Hospital has launched sea ambulance services between Male’ City and suburban Vilimale’.

The Health Ministry and Dharumavantha Hospital signed the agreement and completed the handover of the speedboats that will be used for the service on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed by Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel and Dharumavantha Hospital’s CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Khaleel.

Abdul Razzaq said the service was an initiative of the government to speed up the transfer of residents of Vilimale’ to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

“Because the Vilimale’ Hospital is unable to provide sufficient services, the current administration, and especially President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has pledged to upgrade the hospital’s resources,” he said.

Abdul Razzaq said the sea ambulances will be managed by IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital, and that the city council has allocated space from the Male’ lagoon to anchor the ambulances.

Meanwhile, Khaleel said the boats used for the sea ambulance service is of higher quality than the speedboats usually used in Maldives.

He said that the launch of the sea ambulance service is not the end of the efforts to develop the healthcare sector. He said the service itself will be expanded and upgraded.

“Our goal is to continuously improve the quality of services we provide to you,” he said.

The Maldivian administration has also announced plans to launch air ambulance services in March.
