Gender Ministry: No mental illness observed from the man who spitted on Quran book

Gender Ministry has stated that no mental illness has been observed from the who had spitted on a holy Quran book yesterday – after being released from police custody for urinating inside two mosques and in front of the President’s Office in October.

Noting that they have investigated the case of Ziyad, Gender Ministry said that as their findings indicate he does not have a mental illness – the case has been forwarded to Maldives Police Service and National Drug Agency.

The Ministry also noted that the case is being closely monitored by them

Hassan Ziyad, 40, M. Shady Home, Male’ City, urinated inside the Masjid al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu al- Auzam (Islamic Center) in Male’ City during Magrib prayer on October 3. On the same day – he also urinated inside the Friday Mosque and in front of the President’s Office.

He was arrested by the Police on October 4 – and was remanded in custody for 10 days by the Criminal Court on October 13. Following the conclusion of the investigation into the urinating incidents – Ziyad was released from custody on October 25.

Police said that they requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to file charges against Ziyad on October 24.

They also said that he suffers from a disability – adding that it would be probed whether he suffered from any other mental illnesses.
