Man urinates inside Islamic Centre amidst Maqrib prayer

A man urinated inside Masjid Al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al-Auzam (Islamic Center) whilst the Maqrib prayer was ongoing at the mosque tonight, in congregation.

Maldives Police Service confirmed that the case of an individual entering the mosque amidst congregational prayers and urinating inside – was reported to them tonight.  

The Police also noted that the man in question had also urinated in front of the President’s Office and the Friday Mosque this evening.

They also stressed that the man in question was a person with a disability.

The Police said that they were investigating the matter further.

Acts of disrespect towards mosques have been reported to the Police prior to this as well. 

In this regard, in January 2021, a man had gone inside the mosque in a state of nakedness. The Police later reported that the man suffers from a mental illness.
