Teacher accused of sexual abuse suspended

A teacher in a school in Huvadhoo Atoll under investigation for sexual abuse of a minor has been placed under suspension. 

The teacher who was suspended by Education Ministry is an Indian national. 

The victim is a 17-year-old girl who recently graduated from grade 10 at the local school. 

A police spokesperson said the case was reported to the authorities on Tuesday, September 21. 

The spokesperson said the case is under investigation by the police. However, the teacher has yet to be arrested. 

Education Ministry states they are conducting an administrative investigation into the case.
