One of two individuals arrested over bomb threat to Mulee’aage released

One of the two individuals arrested over bomb threat to the official residence of the President, Mulee’aage, has been released from custody.

Two individuals that passed by Mulee’aage this morning had shouted out loud claiming that they were carrying a bomb – following which both of them were arrested. At the time of their arrest, they were carrying a box, a suitcase, and a red plastic bag.

The media official of Maldives Police Service has confirmed to Sun that one of them has been released from custody whereas the one who remains in custody is the person who made the statement.

“The person who is currently in custody is the one who claimed that there was a bomb. The other person did not say the same,” the media official said.

Police also added that they are investigating the matter further.

Following the bomb threat, the Police and MNDF has increased security measures at the Presidential residence and its surrounding areas.

Two individuals have also been arrested recently over separate threats to bomb the People’s Majilis and the High Commission of India in the Maldives which were made on social media.
