Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has been contracted to undertake outstanding work in construction of water and sanitation facilities in Lh. Naifaru.

The contract between National Planning, Infrastructure and Housing Ministry and MWSC to complete the outstanding work on the project was signed last Monday.

MWSC has been contacted to complete the outstanding work within five months, including site renovations, establishment of laboratory facilities for water testing, and work on the sea outflow, pump station and STP electro-mechanical installation.

The water project is valued at MVR 24.2 million while the sanitation project is valued at MVR 13.1 million.

The water and sanitation project in Naifaru and the sanitation project in Th. Veymandoo were originally contracted to Indian joint venture Lucky Exports -Triveni for MVR 148.9 million back in 2017. However, the projects remained unfinished long past the contracted duration, and the current Maldivian administration terminated the contract.

The termination of the contract is under dispute, with Lucky Exports lodging an arbitration case against the Maldivian government citing unlawful termination of contract.
