An elderly individual transported to Male’ City from A. Dh. Mahibadhoo has tested positive for COVID-19.
The individual was transported yesterday after receiving treatment at Mahibadhoo hospital and tested positive from the initial test conducted in Male’ City. The individual is aged above 80.
This is the first case of the virus confirmed by Mahibadhoo. Health Ministry said that no one in home-quarantine on the island had tested positive for the virus before. So, a second sample has now been collected from the individual to ascertain the results.
The Ministry noted that there was still a possibility that the virus could reach the island, despite no positive cases from anyone in quarantine.
“We are awaiting the results of the second test.” Said the Ministry official.
The island council said that HPA had not instructed any measures so far. Other than the closure of the school, no other precautionary measures have been taken on the island.
