Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) has announced that it will be foregoing 20 percent from the course fees being taught at the university.

A statement by the University today read that the move was to assist students during the financially challenging situation in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The University has decided to waive 20 percent of the tuition fees of all courses being taught at the University for the year 2020.” Read the statement.

The University has been conducting online classes since April. However, as the virus situation in the country progressed racking up over 1000 infections, the University suspended online classes as well. Maldives National University also did the same.

IUM stated that to avoid any disruptions to studies, the University will be continuing with online classes from May 29. MNU has also announced that it will be doing so from May 31 onwards.
