Two individuals have been arrested in Male' City for violating the lockdown orders imposed in light of COVID-19.
The capital of Maldives is in a state of lockdown and curfew since April 15, when a community case of the virus was discovered in the capital. The virus has now infected more than 1000 people in the Maldives.
Police stated that the two individuals were questioned for their presence on the streets by officers on patrol. They had then attempted to escape.
The actions of the individuals had led the Police to arrest them. The individuals arrested are both locals and are aged 36 and 38 years.
Police are now investigating the matter.
Lockdown violators in the capital are met with fines and sometimes arrests based on the nature of their violations.
The Maldives has so far confirmed four deaths from the virus. Authorities have requested public compliance to the instructions issued in a bid to effectively curb the virus.
